Woo Hoot! Hoot! Hoot!

Guatemalan Screech Owl, perched in Islita's tropical dry forest.

Hotel Punta Islita’s eco-experts, Eduardo, Ronald, and Nelson have just spotted a Guatemalan Screech Owl (Megascops guatemalae).  This marks the first time this nocturnal feathered friend is sighted in the Islita vicinity.  Congratulations to them for managing to snap this beautiful image, not an easy feat.  In addition to being nighttime hunters, the Guatemalan Screech Owl rarely sings from an open branch, making it quite difficult to locate.  We love the details of this photograph, including the feathered "leg warmers" of this stylish specimen.  Any resemblance to the TripAdvisor owl is merely coincidental...  ;)
